It does an excellent overall job of smoothing out camera shake in FHD and 4k and has a fully articulated screen that can pivot to face you. It's not a bad choice for still photography either, as it offers amazing image quality and has a fast continuous shooting speed.

There’s a case to be made that, if Sony genuinely wanted to attract the smartphone crowd, the ZV-1 would need to feel as portable and as lightweight as a smartphone – within reason of course. The sight of bulky camera kits and elephant trunk lenses can be enough to send millennials running (myself included), so before a discussion about features could even take place, Sony would have to nail the design. Well, it’s safe to say they’ve done it. Despite its focus on video capture, the ZV-1 has more in common, design-wise, with the Sony RX series. While not quite as small as Sony’s compact cameras however, the ZV-1 made my portable Canon M50 suddenly seem a lot larger by comparison. At 10.5 x 4.4 x 6 cm, the ZV-1 can easily be placed in a pocket or a small camera bag, and you won’t get tired holding it at arm’s length. When considering the Sony ZV-1 it’s important to understand exactly who it is for. In a world of Instagram Stories, YouTube and TikTok, Sony has created a camera that is designed to appeal to creators who want more quality and flexibility than they would get from shooting with a smartphone or action camera. The aim has been to produce a camera that can shoot video clips of high quality, with little fuss, with all the photo features of the RX100 series so that users can still take those amazing travel photos for Instagram. Side by side the ZV-1 looks like a slightly bloated version of the RX100; it is a millimetre or two larger in every dimension, which accentuates the rounded edges of the camera. Hold the ZV-1 and another major change comes apparent - it has a plastic, or polycarbonate, body, as opposed to the all metal design of the RX100. Again, I would imagine this has been done to keep the cost of the camera down, but in hand the body seems solid; all the components fit very nic...

Source: bhphotovideo.com In fact, in terms of hardware, the ZV-1 largely coincides with the RX100 series. The camera uses a 24-70mm equivalent f / 1.8-2.8 zoom lens and a 1-inch 20-megapixel CMOS sensor from the RX100 V , however this is complemented by AF enhancements from the Mark VII. On the other hand, the controls and the way you work with the camera are quite different. There is no control ring around the lens and the key layout is completely different. It is also worth noting that unlike the RX100 series, Sony does not use Cyber-shot branding for this camera, and the official model name is DCZV-1, unlike DSC, which stands for digital stills camera. The camera also uses the same NP-BX1 battery as the RX100.

Another significant change is found at the back, where Sony has used a side-hinged fully articulated screen instead of a tilt-only unit. It adds little to the camera’s size: in fact at 105.5 x 60 x 43.5mm, the ZV-1 is just 4mm wider and 2.5mm thicker than the similarly-spec’d RX100 V.

Its novel microphone and video-friendly ergonomics are big plusses, but we want to see Sony introduce a more modern touch interface and update their menus to appeal to a wider audience.
