The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X was released exactly a year ago today. And we loved it. Loads of cores and decent gaming performance made it one of our favorite CPUs, and cemented its place in our best CPU... 

An interesting product design decision by AMD has been to drop the in-box cooling solution with the Ryzen 9 3900XT. Unlike the 3900X, which includes an AMD Wraith Prism RGB cooler, the Ryzen 9 3900XT lacks a cooler. AMD claims that a majority of the audience for the 3900X uses aftermarket cooling, or even watercooling. 

AMD's Ryzen 9 3900XT brings improvements to lightly- and mid-threaded performance to bear, but the gains are minor enough in most applications that it isn't worth the high price and associated cost...

AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT processor review - Benchmark and Specs. The processor AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT is developed on the 7 nm Matisse technology node and architecture Zen 2 Refresh. Its base clock speed is 4.10 GHz, and maximum clock speed in turbo boost - 4.70 GHz. AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT contains 12 processing cores. 

Verdict. For folks wanting to build a new PC, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT is a fairly obvious choice over the vanilla Ryzen 9 3900X owing to the slight bump in boost clock speeds that you get. 

In the Cinebench R20 single-core test, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X scores 618 points, up from the 518 scored by the Ryzen 9 3900X, a 19% gen-on-gen increase. The Intel Core i9-10900K scores 522 points in... 

Finally, the Ryzen 9 3900XT is a 12-core / 24-thread processor with a base clock of 3.8GHz with a max boost clock of 4.7GHz, which is a 100MHz increase over the original Ryzen 9 3900X.
