Many AV software companies have notably shady businesses practices when it comes to selling their AV tools. We’ve seen a fair number of tactics that are woefully consumer-unfriendly, such as sneaking in addon services and hiding the fact that the service is subscription-based. From experience, we like to take a look at how the company handles purchasing and signup to get a good feel for its overall trustworthiness. Bitdefender’s anti-malware engine is popular and effective, and the company provides plenty of useful extra utilities and features if you subscribe to its higher tiers, including parental controls and a VPN service. From Bitdefender’s official UK site, a 5-device Total Security 2020 subscription currently costs £29.99, going up to £69.99 (the standard price) after the first year. However, you can buy a physical activation code on Amazon for £19.99, which you can also add to existing subscriptions to the same product, making it a more wallet-friendly way to renew. Bitdefender Total Security provides a definitive suite of security tools at a very reasonable price. It did well at protecting against malware, but nonetheless put in a worse performance than Windows Defender during the same test period. If you want a security suite with plenty of bells and whistles, Bitdefender is well equipped, but Symantec’s Norton 360 Deluxe performs better and does just as much – sans device management...

Bitdefender Total Security 2018is a security suite that is highly efficient when it comes to: 1. Securing your computers and devices from any malware, both offline and online 2. Guarding your devices when you connect to unsafe networks 3. Providing a well-organized user interface that is both accessible to beginners and with lots of advanced features, tools, and settings for experienced users 

Once installed and the necessary permissions have been granted, Total Security will run its real-time protection in the background, watching your files for any unwanted behaviour. While the macOS version, which we’re focusing on in this review, doesn’t have a scheduled scan option, its real-time protection makes this unnecessary as long as a full System Scan has been run initially to catch anything that may be already on the hard drive. Quick Scan does the same but only in certain locations. You can also scan a specific file, folder or mounted volume on demand but there’s no button offered for this: you need to drop it into the main window for checking. Bitdefender’s VPN service helps keep your online activity secure, but in Total Security, you only get limited use of it. Very limited, in fact.
