Jan 19, 2021 ·  The Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM is not really a macro lens, but the close-focus point is a useful 30cm from the film/sensor plane, and Canon quotes a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.25x for the lens, both of which are slightly better than the EF version. 

The Canon RF 50mm f1.8 STM is a low-cost standard lens for the EOS R mirrorless system which, like the EF versions before it, provides an affordable entry into the World of prime lenses, low-light photography and shallow depth-of-field effects. 

Dec 16, 2020 ·  The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is everything you want a nifty fifty to be. It's cheap, compact and capable, delivering great image quality (on par in some areas with the RF 50mm f/1.2L, which costs over ten times as much!) in a truly pocket-sized lens. 

Mar 11, 2021 ·  Although it’s the cheapest Canon lens you can currently buy in RF-mount, the RF 50mm F1.8 STM costs £100 more than the EF 50mm F1.8 STM for Canon DSLRs. In the same way the EF 50mm F1.8 STM (£119) offered several improvements over the now discontinued EF 50mm F1.8 II, the RF 50mm F1.8 STM advances where the EF 50mm F1.8 STM left off. 

For Canon photographers, it’s a dream to use, well, if your budget allows it. So bright lenses, cost money. Much money. The much smaller and almost as bright RF 50mm f1.8 STM, costs a tenth and is almost as sharp, and in that sense the affordable 50 is a much better buy. 

The RF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens will be welcomed by many owners of Canon’s EOS R cameras, not least because it provides an affordable alternative to the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens. Its small size and light weight (160 grams) make it an ideal walkaround lens, especially for street and everyday snapshots as well as events landscapes, fashion, product ...

In R-mount we are talking about the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM which is, by far, the most affordable prime lens offered by Canon at least.
