I would lean more towards dell XPS 13 because m1 is still new a lot of apps/tools don't support m1. since you are a CS student you will install a lot of tools over 4 year period. I am a dev and still skeptical about m1 I think it's too risky to buy an m1 mac right now.

The only thing I don't like about it is the left/middle/right click buttons, and I'm having trouble pushing them directly down. I wish they were angled. However, I'm not used to having them on the top, so this may change once I get used to it.

I also do travel quite a bit at times for work. My current option is the new Dell Xps 13 with i7, 16gb ram, and 512gb for 1430 CAD (killer deal) or the m1 Macbook air with 16 Gb ram and 512 Gb for 1750 CAD (I'm a recent grad so I still can get the student discount). I don't think it spent any significant time at that temperature, and the average temp at high settings was low-80s.
