There are no two ways about it – this is a big phone. With a 6.9-inch display — a mere tenth of an inch short of what used to be a very common tablet screen size – the slim-bezeled Galaxy S20 Ultra is a tall device that’s a little unwieldy in-hand. I have slightly larger-than-average hands, and even I had to be extra careful to secure a good grip on it when pulling it out of a pocket or picking it up. It’s tall, weighty, and a bit top-heavy (did you see the camera hump?) I found myself using the one-handed mode for the first time because I simply can’t use this phone one-handed otherwise. That said, it looks and feels like the grand — or rather, 1.4 grand — you paid for it. The Quad HD+ (3200 x 1440) Dynamic AMOLED delivers deep, inky blacks and popping, saturated colors paired with sharp detail reproduction. Combined with the booming clarity of the stereo speakers, it’s one of the best viewing experiences you can have on a phone. It’s every bit as bright at its peak as the iPhone 1...

The four-sensor rear camera setup of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is one of the best phone cameras we've ever tested. Simply put, it's packed with more megapixels and intuitive, creative photo tools than the competition. The main snapper is equipped with a 108 MP image sensor that captures sharp, insanely detailed photos. For comparison, most of the top smartphones today have 12 MP primary image sensors with nine times fewer pixels. When the lighting conditions are not great, the S20 Ultra will automatically capture 12 MP images, which combine nine of its main sensor’s pixels into one. And then there are the camera’s epic zoom capabilities. The S20 Ultra has a 48 MP sensor sitting behind a telephoto lens with 10-times hybrid optic zoom, meaning that you can capture objects up close without sacrificing image quality. This is likely, in part, down to the processor of the UK Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. UK variants have an Exynos 990 processor, while US models have the Snapdragon 865 chip instead.

I still get don't get the obsession with insane levels of zoom: 5x can be useful, but even 10x I find pointless in 99 percent of the photos I shoot.
