The MV7 broke on me in a week and sounded just okay without the awful software shure pushes on you. NT-USB was meh.

One I'll just plug into my computer at home, the other will be an XLR hookup into a friends set up, so I will only need the mic for that. Shure MV7 seems like best bet to be able to do USB for myself without extra gear, and still be able to drag it to my friends place to record.

I’d recommend the Shure MV7 to start. It’ll connect either via USB to your computer or via XLR to a mixer (depending on your setup), and it’ll give you sound quality on the same level as the Shure SM7B, which is the mic many of the higher end shows use. This one gives you some more flexibility and user-friendliness if you’re just starting out.

So, of the two, you want the Shure and decidedly NOT the Rode. NT1's are condenser mics, which will pick up a lot of the room. The MV7 is a dynamic, broadcast-style mic designed to pick up the person speaking into it, and reject (to one degree or another) other noises. >u/manglermixer I use mostly mv7’s and I generally like to have 6-8’ of distance from mics.
