At time of review, the Sony a6400 retails around 900USD for the body only. I think this is fair for what you get. The price point is doable for Sony photographers who want to gift themselves an upgraded mirrorless camera that will be fun for everyday shooting and playing around. 

Sony’s A6400 camera occupies a sort of middle-ground between its top-of-the-line a6500 model and the accessible, ultra-cheap a6000. It features an APS-C-sized sensor and is aimed at the enthusiast, budget-conscious photographer. Nevertheless, it inherits some great features from Sony’s full-frame lineup. Replacing the a6300, the A6400’s headline upgrades come in the shape of its autofocus improvements. It has the same Bionz X processor as found in the flagship A9 full-frame model, while also bringing enhancements to Eye AF and subject tracking. The A6400 also has a good set of specifications for the price point for those interested in video. It can shoot 4K movies at full-pixel readout and with no pixel binning for higher-quality filming. There’s also a range of different formats to suit the needs of different videographers, plus a 3.5mm port that you can use to attach an external microphone. Not many surprises here: The A6400 has a nigh-on identical body to 2016's A6300. The top, button layout, mount, battery and everything else is nearly the same as before. It has a magnesium body that's sealed against dust and moisture, as before, but Sony said it has been mildly upgraded. The only difference I can see, however, is a slightly larger grip. I've never been a fan of the button layout on Sony's A6xxx series. Rather than giving you lots of physical controls, you get just an (awkwardly positioned) adjustment dial on the top and a rear multi-function thumb wheel. Sony forces you to use the latter for many settings, like ISO and exposure compensation, which pulls your eye from the viewfinder. I much prefer what Fujifilm did with the XT-30, which also has a better-looking, more practical design than the A6400's square-black-box look.
