The Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM is a high-end, medium-wide prime lens for Sony's E-mount cameras. While there have been high-end 35mm F1.4 primes in the lineup for some time – including Sony's own Zeiss-branded Distagon 35mm F1.4– this new lens looks to be an impressive performer despite its relatively small size (and it's less expensive than the Zeiss, to boot). Most*of the DPReview staff is in agreement that 35mm lenses make for excellent general-purpose primes, lending themselves well to all kinds of photography, and they're a staple in many a photographers' bag. The Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM will be available mid-February at a suggested price of $1400. *Those of us on staffthat don't like the 35mm focal length are just wrong, but we love them anyway. Announced in January 2021, it costs around $1400. The 35mm 1.4 GM actually becomes Sony’s fourth 35 in the native e-mount, but the first to join the flagship G-Master series.

Jan 13, 2021 ·  The Sony FE 35mm F/1.4 G Master is not Sony's first fast 35mm prime. Remarkably, Sony now makes four 35mm primes for its full frame FE mount mirrorless cameras. One is the relatively plain but affordable Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 and two are Zeiss-badged lenses – the compact Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA and the hefty Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 ZA. 

Full review. Announced in January 2021, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 ‘G Master’ lens is smaller and lighter than the Zeiss Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 lens we reviewed back in September 2017. Weighing only 524 grams and just 96 mm long, it is a great partner for the recently-released Alpha 1 camera on which we have reviewed it.
