STREETS OF RAGE 4 is an action beat 'em up that takes place ten years after the events of Streets of Rage 3. Thanks to Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Adam Hunter, the criminal syndicate of Mr. X organization in Wood Oak City was dismantled. 

Streets of Rage 4’s graphics are stunningly beautiful on PS4. Like, I’m not even bothered if that sounds like the most generic, cliche, lazy description of the game’s graphics, because that’s what they are. It’s a comic book in motion, complete with hand-drawn punks, hookers, and turkeys.

All in all, I had a fantastic time playing Streets of Rage 4, I will certainly be playing more of it with friends. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia with modern improvements. The occasional niggle does occur but after repeated playthroughs, I’ve come to the conclusion that they were mostly down to me and that with more exposure to the art ... 

Of course, Streets of Rage is included in that nostalgia, and playing this long awaited 4 th entry feels as though I’ve somehow gone back in time to those days. Outside of the (initially controversial) visuals, this feels like Streets of Rage, rather than a homage or re-imagining. Yet, it doesn’t feel like a title out of time. 

The story of Streets of Rage 4 apparently follows directly on from Streets of Rage 3. With the demise of Mr X, his children, Mr and Ms Y, have decided to pick up where daddy left off ten years ago. 

Despite its minor flaws, Streets of Rage 4 is an amazing addition to the beat’em up genre with an addictive and surprisingly deep combat system and surpasses its predecessors by a mile.
