My $2,099 white test model (code 8RF-442US) touts a panel with 144Hz refresh and close to 100 percent of the sRGB color gamut. That's along with the Max-Q version of Nvidia's 8GB GeForce GTX 1070 GPU, 16GB of system memory, and a 256GB NVMe solid-state drive (SSD). I couldn't verify that machine by machine, but no doubt, this ZenBook shaves off almost every millimeter that seems plausible to trim. Measuring 0.63 by 12.6 by 7.8 inches (HWD), the ZenBook 14 sits a little thinner, and a tad longer, than an A4 pad of paper. That makes it a little larger than the smaller-screen Dell XPS 13 (0.46 by 11.9 by 7.8 inches), if a little heavier (3.5 pounds, versus Dell's 2.9 pounds). These modestly different specs mean very little, however, as what matters is when you open up the laptop and meet the ZenBook 14's wide, 1,920-by-1,080-pixel display. I'll get to the screen itself in a moment. The screen-to-body ratio is of most interest here; on the ZenBook 14, it is an impressive 92 percent, although that's helped by one of the ZenBook line's distinct design features, the so-called ErgoLift Hinge. Though big, the MSI isn't a behemoth; we've tested larger machines (like the hulking Acer Predator Helios 700) over the years. But at 1.08 by 15.6 by 10.6 inches (HWD) and 6.4 pounds, it dwarfs the 15.6-inch-screened, roughly-4-pound gaming rigs we've seen by the score recently. It's also bigger than 17-inch laptops that do try to maintain some portability, like the Alienware m17 R3 (0.88 by 15.7 by 11.6 inches, 6.5 pounds), the Razer Blade Pro 17 (0.78 by 15.6 by 10.2 inches, 6.1 pounds), and the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR XA(0.84 by 15.6 by 10.6 inches, 5.5 pounds). The ExpertBook's exterior is identical to the last version's, since this is largely a component and feature update. That might not give me a lot to add here (see our original review for a deeper dive on the design), but it's not a negative. This is one of the most portable business laptops, measuring just 0.59 by 12.6 by 8 inches (HWD). This is right in line with compact competitors like the systems mentioned above. The Latitude is a bit heftier at 3 pounds, though the 13-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nanois even lighter at 1.99 pounds. The ExpertBook's light weight is owed in part to the construction material, a magnesium alloy that cuts down on heft but feels more premium than cheaper plastic. It has a textured but soft feel to it, so it's a nice choice for portability and build quality. The dark blue color is also appealing, and helps it stand out a bit from the crowd of mostly black business notebooks.
