Announced at Photokina 2018 and officially launched on 1 February 2019, the 47.3-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DC-S1R is the higher-resolution model of two professional-level full-frame mirrorless cameras from Panasonic. While the 24-megapixel S1 is a ‘hybrid’ stills/video model, the S1R is orientated more towards stills.

In many ways, the Panasonic S1R is the best mirrorless camera on the market right now (at least of the full-frame variety). It has the most advanced features you’ll find today – everything from sensor-shift mode to illuminated rear buttons – and an excellent 47 megapixel sensor. So, why don’t I highly recommend it? Two main reasons: price and weight. Add in a third – lenses – if the current crop of L-mount compatible Sigma glass doesn’t work for your needs, because pretty much every other compatible lens for the L mount is extremely expensive. At $3700 body only, the S1R is not a cheap camera by any means. It costs far more than the Nikon Z7 ($2700 with current discounts), and it even costs more than the recently-released Sony A7R IV ($3500). Unfortunately, that’s not going to win Panasonic a lot of converts. Even if you find a good deal and price isn’t an issue, weight might be. The S1R is 1016 grams (2.24 pounds), making it heavier than all its mirrorless competitors by a fair mar...

For stills, it might only be a 12.1MP sensor but it is a full-frame camera, so that offers significant low-light benefits. And it can shoot compressed or uncompressed raw files at 10fps for up to 1000 shots.

Apr 13, 2021 ·  The Sony A7S III — a video-focused full-frame multi-hyphenated camera with a 12-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. Woah, that’s a mouthful. Though, there’s not enough good things to say about this powerful new beast that just hit the market. 

When it comes to its ergonomics, the A7 III features Sony’s latest generation mirrorless body design which brings it up to date with its siblings: the A7R III and A9. The refinements to the controls and design make the A7 III appreciably easier to handle than the A7 II. The camera fits nicely in the hand, with an improved grip size making it much more comfortable to shoot with, particularly when using larger lenses. Perhaps just as important, the larger grip size also leaves more room for Sony’s enhanced Z-type battery which when used alongside the A7 III, offers the longest battery life seen on a mirrorless camera to date. Measuring 127 x 96 x 74 mm (5.0 x 3.78 x 2.5 in) and weighing 650g (22.93 oz) including battery, the A7 III is a bit bigger than its predecessor but remains highly compact when compared to a full-frame DSLR camera body.
